February 24th – SWE is holding a basketball tournament with Hearts and Homes for Youth at 1:00PM. The tournament will be held at the White Oak Community Rec Center located at 1700 April Lane, White Oak MD. Food will be provided for volunteers and attendees.
March 2nd – Runners and sponsors are needed for a charity 5K race for Bright Beginnings. The race begins at 8:00 AM.
The race supports homeless children and families. The race starts and finishes at West Potomac Park.
Participants will enjoy a scenic view of the Tidal Basin, Hains Point and the Potomac River.
All proceeds benefit Bright Beginnings, Inc.
March 9th – We need volunteers to help the Jubilee Association of Maryland with landscaping the Jubilee houses located in Rockville. The landscaping will take place between 10AM to 4PM and you can choose your shift, 10AM to 1PM or 1PM to 4PM. The address for the houses will be announced closer to date.
March 9th – So What Else is hosting a student board meeting and day of service where students from school all over the county meet to discuss service opportunities, initiatives and collaborations.
If you are a student or someone that has something to add to the meeting please join us! The meeting will be at 10AM to 12PM at 200A Monroe Street Suite 205, Rockville MD 20850.
Meeting and lunch will be followed by a service project helping the Jubilee Association with house cleaning and landscaping from 12:30PM to 1:00PM.
Location. 200 a Monroe street followed by lunch and community service at the below address. We will begin service at 1 pm at the jingle address. 12817 jingle lane.
March 17th – So What Else is teaming up with the Girls Scouts of America to hold a Goods Drive.
We need people to spread the word and bring donations! We will be collecting books for shelters and to send overseas to Haiti. Please bring adult age books as well as children’s books.
We are also collecting material for our afterschool programs. This includes all sport balls, sport equipment, arts and craft supplies and musical instruments. Feel free to also donate clothing, winter coats, bikes and goods donations to donate to shelters and other organizations.
The drive is being held in front of Michaels at 1509 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852 at 10 AM.
March 23rd – So What Else is sponsoring a bike collection for Bikes for the World at REI in Rockville from 12PM to 4PM. We are looking for 3 to 6 volunteers to help out with the collection as well as bike donations from anyone who can. REI is located at 1701 Rockville Pike, Rockville MD 20852 (Halpine entrance).
Ongoing Every Thursday – Every Thursday from 2PM to 8PM Bikes for the World has open volunteering at their King Farm Barn location. Volunteers are needed to help process bikes for shipping to third world countries in need. This is a fun, rewarding experience for bikers and people interested in bikes. The barns are located at the corner of Piccard and Grand Champion within the King Farm community
20-30 volunteers needed for this event. We are looking for a large number of volunteers , youth groups encouraged, breakfast will be provided- 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Randolph hills local Park, 11805 Ashley Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
We have a great last minute volunteer opportunity for Thursday, April 18th. We need approximately 2 more volunteers for each shift at the LearnServe International Panel & Venture Fair, located at the School Without Walls. The address is 2130 G Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 (Foggy Bottom Metro Stop). The shifts are as follows:
Set-up shift is from 3:45 pm to 6:00 pm
Clean-up shift is from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
SSL hours are available for anyone who volunteers at this event.

Join us… volunteer to help with the DC 2013 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.
Volunteer assignments can include a variety of activities and areas including: standing along the walk route to assist walkers with directions or questions, handling out tee-shirts, dispensing food and beverages, or assisting in the family tent with arts and crafts. Tasks will be assigned on Walk Day when you check in and you’ll be assigned whatever has the greatest need at that time. You will receive a Volunteer tee-shirt to wear at the event.

You can choose from 2 shifts, 3 to 6 or 6 to 9:30 or stay the whole time.
The gala is located at the Bethesda North Marriott at 5701 Marinelli Road Bethesda, MD, 20852.
We will be sending volunteers to a PFLAG event at Penthouse Pool and Lounge, 1612 U St NW Washington, DC 20009. The event is from 6:00 to 9:00PM.
Volunteers are needed to staff the check in table.
Since this is a cocktail party we adult volunteers over the age of 21.
May 18th - Join us for a fun volunteer event at the Silver Spring Strawberry Festival. Sixteen volunteers are needed from 8am to 1pm and then 8 volunteers from 1pm to 6pm. The festival is located at 2410 Route 198, Burtonsville, MD 20868.
