A Day in the Life of So What Else
Friday August 2nd was a busy day for So What Else! Our team spread out to several different programs and events serving our partner organizations and under-resourced communities across Maryland and Washington DC.
We held four summer programs in three different communities, serving over 80 youth. We sent two teams to serve with our partner organizations and we hosted a summer camp kick-off ice-cream social!
Here are some highlights from the day!
At our Wingate Camp in South West, DC, our campers completed a community clean-up! One of our top priorities is to teach youth the importance of caring for their community and their earth.
We sent a team to the annual Summer Olympics with Community Services Foundation, serving over 400 children.
We hosted an ice-cream social to kick off our august camp at the Rockville Housing Community! Our Rockville Camp serves over 50 kids with free programming and free food for the whole month of August, Mon. through Fri. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A team of staff and volunteers was sent out to help Bike to the Beach with their annual DC ride to raise funds and awareness for autism.
Our camp at Lunch and Learn brought middle school and high school students, from Takoma Park, together to immerse themselves in service and community. They even learned a Brazilian Dance which they performed Friday night for their parents!
Our team at Gaithersburg Middle School delivered camp to summer school students after their lunch time. This summer we provided sports, dance, cooking , gardening and expressive arts – which gave students the opportunity to try new things after being in summer school classes in the morning.
Thank you to our staff for making the day a success for those we served and thank you to our great communities partners doing amazing work!
