Celebrating a Community Hero: Sacdiya Siyaad and Her Impact on Youth Programs
At So What Else, we believe in the power of community champions—those individuals whose dedication and heart transform the lives of the young people we serve. Today, we’re thrilled to highlight one such hero: Sacdiya Siyaad, a shining example of selflessness and commitment, and a recent recipient of the 18th Annual Azalea Award from the Takoma Foundation.
Since 2006, the Takoma Foundation has recognized difference-makers through the prestigious Azalea Awards, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to uplift their communities. Sacdiya embodies the spirit of this honor. As a classroom para-assistant at Takoma Park Elementary, her love and dedication have earned her the admiration of students, teachers, and parents alike. Her ability to create a nurturing environment has made her a cornerstone in the lives of many young learners. It’s not uncommon to hear students and teachers alike hoping she’ll be assigned to their classrooms.
But Sacdiya’s impact extends far beyond the school day. For the past 12 years, she has worked with the Takoma Park Lunch and Learn summer program, ensuring that every child not only receives quality education but also the nutrition they need to succeed. Under her watchful care, students are fed—mind, body, and soul—with breakfast and lunch that fuel their potential.
Sacdiya’s dedication to youth doesn’t stop there. Since 2013, she has served as the director of the After School Program for Essex House, providing a safe and enriching environment for children after the bell rings. Her leadership and care have profoundly impacted countless families, giving children the tools they need to thrive academically and emotionally.
At So What Else, our youth programs are inspired by the same dedication and vision that Sacdiya demonstrates every day. Our after-school and summer programs aim to create safe spaces where children can learn, grow, and realize their full potential. We’re honored to celebrate Sacdiya’s achievements as a testament to the transformative power of education and community service.
However, we cannot do this alone. To continue supporting programs like Sacdiya’s and expand our reach to even more children, we need your help. Your donation can:
- Provide essential supplies for our after-school programs.
- Fund nutritious meals for children who might otherwise go hungry.
- Support enrichment activities that broaden horizons and spark creativity.
Every dollar you give helps us build a brighter future for our youth. This holiday season, as we reflect on the incredible impact of community leaders like Sacdiya, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Together, we can ensure that every child has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
Donate today and help us empower the next generation.
Sacdiya Siyaad’s story is a reminder that when we come together as a community, we can create lasting change. Let’s honor her work by continuing to invest in the potential of our youth.
