So What Else to host Holiday Day of Giving on December 20
Bethesda, Maryland — December 20, 2025 — This holiday season, So What Else invites community members, families, and volunteers of all ages to join us for Spread the Joy: Holiday Day of Giving, a full day dedicated to uplifting families in need and celebrating the spirit of giving.
Event Details
Date: Saturday, December 20
Time: 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Volunteer in shifts!)
Location: So What Else Food Rescue Bank, 4924 Wyaconda Rd. Bethesda, MD 20852
On our final outdoor food distribution of the year, volunteers will come together to distribute essential resources — and holiday cheer — to local families. Each participating family will receive toys, a hot meal, a Christmas tree, 75 lbs of food (with guaranteed meat), and firewood to help keep their homes warm and joyful this season.
So What Else aims to support 25,000 families this holiday season, with this Holiday Day of Giving marking our last big push before we close for winter break on December 24. With families facing rising food costs and limited access to fresh groceries, it is more important than ever that we rise to meet these challenges this month and through our continued hunger relief efforts.

“This day is all about the community coming together—supporting our neighbors, sharing joy, and making sure every family feels cared for during the holidays,” said Dave Silbert, Executive Director and Co-Founder of So What Else.
Volunteers are welcome for the entire day or in shifts. Whether you’re bringing your family, coming solo, or rallying a group of friends or coworkers, your time and energy will make a meaningful difference. Throughout the day, So What Else is also welcoming donations of gently used coats, clothing and blankets; new toys; and shelf-stable food items.

A Special Call to Local Restaurants
This year, we are extending a heartfelt invitation to restaurants across the region to partner with us by providing free soup for families in need during the event. Warm meals bring comfort, connection, and dignity—your restaurant’s support can directly touch hundreds of lives in a meaningful way.
