This years Maryland Special Olympics, regional state Bocce championship competition was held in Rockville, Maryland. The objective of the sport is for a team to roll their four Bocce balls closest to the yellow pallino ball than any other team. The sport encourages great sportsmanship and interaction between students with varying abilities. In 2008 a law, signed by Gov. Martin O’Malley, required schools to provide a minimum of one sport per season for disabled students. As of last year the law has been put into full effect. State wide several counties came to participate, encourage, and support the rise of Bocce. The uniqueness and beauty of the sport is the fact that it opens doors for students with and without disabilities to team-up and compete on a varsity level together. Being such a major event which supported about 63 schools from 9 different school districts, So What Else jumped at the opportunity to get involved and support the tournament.
So What Else volunteers joined the clean up crew and assisted with the resetting of the facility. After only a few hours, work there was done! On to the next project they go! So What Else very much so enjoyed working with the Special Olympics and look forward to partnering with them again in the future.
