SWE can help out by approaching EBB to have program field trips approved in advance, and recruiting volunteers outside of our programs for the weekend volunteer opportunities. We will also want to involve the students from any programs we have in Germantown area schools. Work on the bench will be completed in three main phases.
- Laying Foundation. On Saturday, September 20th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, we will have a big volunteer day to create a foundation of gravel, earth bags, and vertical scaffolding for the bench.
- Cobbing. On Saturday, September 27th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, we will have a big volunteer day for mixing and hand-applying cob, which will adhere the bottle bricks and form the bench. On Saturday, October 4th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, we will have another volunteer cob day. We want to involve the community as much as possible.
- Decorative Mosaic. On Wednesday, October 8th and Thursday, October 9th, the week following cobbing, we will use our weekly after school programming time with KIm, Davey, and Jane’s students to design a mosaic to be applied to the bench and begin preparing materials. Saturday, October 11th will be a big plastering day for SWE’s students and volunteers from the community to help apply the mosaic and finish up the bench.
