So What Else, The Harvest Collective and Summer at Sandy Spring are collaborating this year for Green Path Academy’s Summer of Solutions, a four week summer education program providing high school students with hands on experience in Permaculture design and application.

Permaculture is an ecologically based design process that incorporates engineering concepts to create bountiful human and wildlife habitats that produce a continual yield of food and herbs, while catching and filtering stormwater runoff. The design principles can be used to turn suburban yards into productive healthy ecosystem gardens, or turn old farm fields into self fertile food forests. The options are endless.

During this program we will go over Permaculture ethics and theory, as well as many hands on experiences and skill shares on various projects. Projects include stormwater catchment and filtration with rain gardens and mycelium. Together we will design a food forest and implement some of the practices of Permaculture. Through these hands on projects students will gain experience and knowledge in designing a sustainable ecosystem that will thrive forever.

Students can register for one week course, or the entire four week academy.
